Privacy Policy

DeenFinder is a free masjid finder for the Muslim community. We have designed it to work while collecting as little about you as possible. You do not need an account to use it, and we never ask for your name, email or phone number.

The short version

• No account, no login. We collect no names, emails or phone numbers.
• We use exactly one essential, first-party cookie — nothing for tracking or advertising.
• Your precise GPS location, if you choose to share it, is used to find nearby masjids and is not stored.
• Our analytics are first-party and aggregate — visitor counts, not individual profiles.
• No third-party analytics or advertising networks.

Information we do not collect

DeenFinder does not require you to register or sign in. We do not ask for or store your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal identity information. There are no user profiles.

Cookies

We use exactly one cookie: df_device. It is a strictly necessary, first-party functional cookie that stores a random, anonymous device identifier on your browser. Its only purpose is to stop the same device from registering duplicate prayer "check-ins" for the same prayer.

We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party cookies. Because df_device is strictly necessary for a feature you actively use, it does not require consent under applicable rules, so we do not show a cookie consent banner — this disclosure is your notice.

Location data

There are two separate ways location comes up on DeenFinder:

1. When you tap "Use my location"

If you choose to share your location, your device's GPS coordinates are sent to our service purely to find masjids near you and calculate distances. These precise coordinates are not stored — they are used to answer that one request and then discarded.

2. Approximate area from your IP address

For aggregate visitor analytics, we derive an approximate area (city, region and country) from your IP address. We store only that coarse geographic label — city, region and country. We do not store your raw IP address.

Analytics

Our analytics are entirely first-party and aggregate. We look at things like how many visitors came from a given country, city or day. We do not build individual profiles, and we do not use any third-party analytics or advertising networks such as Google Analytics or ad trackers.

Prayer check-ins

DeenFinder lets you "check in" to a prayer to power the live crowd counter that shows others how full a prayer is right now. A check-in is anonymous. We store it as a record of: the masjid, the prayer, the day, your anonymous device identifier, and whether the check-in came from roughly within 250 metres of the masjid. This is never tied to a personal identity.

Third-party services we call

To provide masjid data, prayer times and location search, DeenFinder sends certain requests to trusted external services:

• OpenStreetMap / Overpass and Aladhan — masjid data and prayer time calculations.
• Ola Maps and Photon — location search and address autocomplete.

Location search is powered by Ola Maps; we display their results but do not store Ola Maps data in our database. Ola Maps' underlying data is based on OpenStreetMap, and their terms require this attribution — Ola Maps.

Data retention

We keep only what we need. Precise GPS coordinates are never retained. Aggregate, coarse geographic analytics and anonymous check-in records are kept only as long as they remain useful for running and improving DeenFinder, and are stored in a form that cannot identify you.

Children

DeenFinder is a general-audience masjid finder and is not directed at children. In line with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Because we collect no personal identity information from anyone, this is naturally the case.

Your rights under India's DPDP Act 2023

India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 gives you rights over your personal data, including the right to access information about how it is processed, to seek correction or erasure, and to raise a grievance. Because we do not collect personal identity information and do not keep data that identifies you, there is usually nothing personal to access, correct or delete — but if you have any question or request, we will do our best to help.
